What the tale is about
On the morning of Berat, the city is waking to a holy day while an exhausted old man stands outside a bakery. He has been hungry for days and has no money, so he takes one loaf and is caught and brought before a judge. Seeing that hunger and the town’s indifference pushed him into wrongdoing, the judge holds everyone in the courtroom responsible and gathers help. With the money, the old man buys twenty loaves for hungry people and urges them not to steal. Inspired, the townspeople share bread daily until no one goes hungry. The story closes with a prayer to Ar-Rashid, Allah, the Guide to the right path.
