What the tale is about
After the Battle of Badr, the question of what to do with the prisoners brought to Medina is considered through the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him)’s consultation with his Companions. Captives who cannot pay ransom may earn their freedom by teaching ten Muslim children to read and write. Orphaned Zayd eagerly joins the lessons and quickly discovers the joy of learning. Seeing his promise, the Prophet encourages him to study Syriac and other languages. Zayd eventually becomes his scribe and a trusted helper. This warm story highlights compassionate care for orphans, fair decisions, education, and diligence.
