I Never Lie – Keloğlan and the Bandits

What the tale is about

In a small village, Keloğlan works hard beside his mother and prepares to take their home-raised chickens to the town market. When his mother falls ill with a fever, he must decide how to care for her while still selling the chickens. With Aunt Rabia’s help, he reaches the market, sells every chicken, and starts home with ten gold coins. After falling asleep beside a fountain, he is surrounded by bandits who demand his money. Though frightened, Keloğlan remembers his promise never to lie and honestly shows them the coins. His truthfulness and advice about earning through honest work soften their hearts. He forgives them, accepts their escort home, and shares hot soup. When he finds his mother recovered, the story leaves a warm lesson about honesty, lawful earnings, forgiveness, and kindness.
